Pingyao Fulfillment - November Update

Hello Wonderful Backers,

It has been a few months since the last update, and we wanted to provide a short update.

Over the last two months, we have had some personnel changes in our team, and we are still working out some problems with the North American fulfillment center. As a result, this update was delayed.

We know some of you are waiting for the add-ons to ship, unfortunately we are waiting on coordination with the factory over the last few months. We anticipate more information for the next update.

There are less than 10 US Backers who haven’t received their games, and we apologize to keep you waiting as we are waiting for more inventory of the art books and the wooden boxes. For the rest of the world, if you still haven’t received your game, or need replacements, please contact us.

Our distributor, Dexker Games and Board Game Rookie brought Pingayao and Dunhuang to Essen Spiel this year and receive a lot of positive feedback and we hope everyone enjoyed the games as much as we did.

Hello wonderful backers!


Some of you have likely received packages from us in the last few days, so you likely have a sense of what's going on. Just in case you're still waiting: we have continued shipping over the last few weeks and have had a lot of luck fixing some of the shipping issues we were experiencing earlier.

Here's the latest news.


North America

Over the past few months, we've had a lot of trouble with North American shipping. Many backers received two copies of either the base game or the expansion, but not the other! This has created an issue where we were afraid we wouldn't have stock to ship to Americans from the USA. (We still have copies in China as a backup - just so you're aware!)

Long story short, all base games have been sent out in North America. Most of you will receive most of what you ordered within the next few days, if you have not already.

Here are some of the issues we're still working through:

Issue 1: We ran out of expansions with just five orders left to go, so the five affected US backers will receive their expansions express shipped from China at our expense.

Issue 2: About 50 US backers will receive their art books, extra cards, metal coins, and/or wooden boxes in a separate package express shipped from China, again at our expense.

Issue 3: Add-ons and card sleeves will be shipped separately to all backers who ordered them in the pledge manager separately as well. (This part isn't new, but has been overshadowed by recent issues.)

Issue 4: Lastly, if you're in Canada and you've received a customs charge that has not yet been reimbursed, send a receipt to [email protected] along with a good PayPal email address.


North America (Backers with 2 Expansions/Base Games Only)

If you're one of the backers who received 2 base games or 2 expansions by mistake, we will reach out and see if you would like to return one. If you want to, we will send you a return label to print so you can send your game back to our warehouse. This is not required, but we do really appreciate it since we are running a small business and actions like that do make a material difference to us.


Europe

Most games have shipped. If you don’t have yours, let us know and we’ll take care of you.


Asia & Elsewhere

Most games have shipped. If you don’t have yours, let us know and we’ll take care of you.

The Current Status of Pingyao Fulfillment

Hello wonderful backers!


As many of you have noticed, Pingyao has been shipping for the last couple of weeks.

Here’s what you need to know now about the status of your games.


North America

Let’s start with the most complicated first. In our last update, we indicated that the number of base games we had in stock was lower than what we expected. A few days after that update went out, ShipBob found 96 more base games that were not previously accounted for. That means most North American-bound games should be shipping directly from North America.

Of course, as many of you have noticed, we’ve encountered a newer and stranger problem: of the 80 packages sent out, 20 of them have had either two base games or two expansions, instead of one of each!

We’ve been working with ShipBob’s support team to get to the bottom of this issue. After nine days, several emails and a few phone calls, we received a response. Games have now been properly labeled in inventory. They will be reshipping the missing items to the affected backers at no cost to us or to you.

In short, according to ShipBob, the root cause of the problem has been addressed and we will send out the remaining games to all North American backers within the next few days. For the backers affected by this double shipping issue, we’ll be sending your missing items ASAP.

That leaves just one remaining issue: what should we do about the extra base games and expansions floating around in backers’ homes now? If you’re an affected backer, let us know if you’re interested in receiving a small rebate in exchange for shipping the game to us. Shipping labels would be provided for free by us, of course.

One last thing: Canadian backers, if you’ve received a customs bill, send it to [email protected] and we’ll reimburse you by PayPal as soon as we can.


Europe

Mercifully, this is a much shorter section!

Most games have shipped. If you don’t have yours, let us know and we’ll take care of you.


Asia & Elsewhere

Our fulfillment center of choice, VFI, has sent games to local hubs. Some local hubs have already shipped games, and some will be doing so within the next week.

Most of you can expect your games by the end of the month, with a few exceptions. Here is a little more detail by region:

  • Taiwan: shipments are currently delayed due to the typhoon, but should be on track soon.
  • Singapore, Japan, and South Korea: games arriving at hub next week.
  • Australia: still awaiting more information.

Pingyao has started shipping to the EU & Asia

Hello wonderful backers!

We have a lot of news for you regarding shipping, so let's jump right into it.


Europe

Your games have shipped! Many backers in Europe have received tracking notifications, and two have even reported receiving the game.

If you're in Europe, you will likely receive your game within the next week. If you're in the United Kingdom, it may take an extra week to clear the border, but your game will arrive pretty soon too!


Asia & Elsewhere

Our fulfillment center of choice, VFI, has started sending games to local hubs. Local hubs will receive games around the end of June and start sending them out anywhere from very late June to mid-July, depending on their schedule.

Long story short, your games will arrive soon too!


North America

Our news for North America, unfortunately, is more mixed. ShipBob has received the games, but we have found that there are not enough in stock to fulfill all rewards all at once.

Here is what we plan to do: ship all Canadian games and as many US games as we can from ShipBob, and ship the rest of the US games from China.

Why do it this way? Americans don't owe customs on items under $800. That's not the case in Canada, where the threshold is lower. (Fun fact: the cost of postage is usually included in the taxable amount, too.)

As for the extra shipping cost of shipping from China, we'll eat the cost. Regarding time, we will have the games sent out as quickly as possible through the fastest viable mail option.

We're still working on shipping Pingyao - here's another update

Hello wonderful backers!


Close followers of Pingyao’s fulfillment will have noticed that the game has been “about to ship” for a while now. As a quick recap:

  • On April 7, we stated that Pingyao had cleared customs in the US and we requested that you update your address. At the time, it looked like we were going to have games in the mail within a couple of weeks.
  • On May 4, we issued another update, stating that we had run into additional delays. Some of those delays are still ongoing, and we’ll discuss that in the following section.

Our goal remains the same: we’re still working on shipping your games as quickly as possible.

Here’s the current status of the games

North America: On May 3, the trucking company notified us that the games had been delivered to the ShipBob warehouse. On May 20, ShipBob showed that the games have been received. So where did the 17-day delay come from?

As it turns out, the trucking company attempted to drop off the games without making an appointment. This issue repeated a few times until we contacted both parties and requested that they work something out. This ultimately resulted in the trucking company making an appointment with ShipBob and dropping off the inventory at an agreed-upon time.

Right now, ShipBob is still processing the shipment, which includes counting the inventory and inspecting it for damage. Once processing is complete, then games can go out.

Europe: A few days after our last update, we heard back from Meeple Shipper that some cartons were damaged in shipping. At the current moment, Meeple Shipper is inspecting the damage and we are awaiting a response before approving the games to be sent out, provided the damage is not extensive.

Asia/Elsewhere: The major COVID-related lockdown in China has been resolved. Our fulfillment partners are just about to shake off the last of their lockdown-related backlog of work. We hope to send out games by the end of the month, barring any other unexpected events.

Add-Ons and Card Sleeves (Everywhere): While the lockdown in China delayed the shipment of add-ons and card sleeves, we are having them shipped quickly by parcel to our fulfillment centers. That means you will receive add-ons and card sleeves from the same warehouse that’s shipping the base game to you, albeit in a separate package shortly after the base game arrives at your doorstep.

Here’s what we’re going to do about it

At the current moment, there is one, and only one thing that Jing Studio can do: keep in touch with the fulfillment centers. We have open and active lines of communication with each individual fulfillment center, and we are acting on any new information we receive as quickly as possible.

Because we are proactively in touch with the fulfillment companies, this also means that as soon as processing ends in the US, damage inspection ends in the EU, and the last remnants of the COVID work backlog eases off in China, we will know within hours and make sure the games go out ASAP.

We are sorry to once again notify you of additional delays. Even among our team, the desire to play with a physical copy of Pingyao is reaching a fever pitch. We want to get these games in the mail both for you and for ourselves!
